The Once and Future King:
An Introduction to Arthurian Legend
Why read about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, of Gwenhwefer, Merlin, Mordred, and Morgana from their original sources?
Their lives make interesting tales, to start. Epic. Legendary even. So much so that their likeness continually resurfaces throughout the centuries in languages galore and in literature, poetry, art, and nowadays film.
Perhaps it is that I teach languages and literature and memorise Beowulf for fun and am therefore biased, but I can assure you: The story sticks with you as all fantastical tragedies do. Although the style may seem old, the wonder it brings to its readers is as real as you and me.
